Quote

Wanting to know an author because you like his work is like wanting to know a duck because you like paté.

So true, but I still like thanking an author I enjoy for the pleasure I've received.

I agree with Stephen. I would think an author would appreciate that readers think highly of their work.

When I like an author's work I write to that person. But that's not what the quote is saying not to do. Read it again.

spot on. I used to see a very sozzled derek raymond a lot in the French House in Soho (London), in the 90's and really liked his Robin Cook books. I kept thinking-maybe I should chat but i didn't. we were on nodding terms and i think it was best that it stayed like that!

Most authors I have no need of knowing personally because I read their books. One author whose books I do not read is Margaret Atwoods.

How wonderful!

I agree, write to a writer and tell them you enjoy their work by all means, but trying to get to know them ... well as a writer, I think it's a bad idea for writer and appreciator and that's all I'm going to say!
